You Could Have Mold Under Your RV Mattress, EWW!
Living in an RV and having the freedom to travel is a wonderful way to live. Furthermore, forget about packing a suitcase every time you visit a new place. It’s also very convenient to have your own toilet hooked to the back of your truck when on the road. Social media is dominated with RV travelers, but it is not all butterflies and rainbows. So we’re going to tell you how to prevent mold and mildew under your RV mattress.
Your RV is your home and needs regular care and maintenance, like changing the anode rod in your water heater. Sometimes, even more so since your home is now bouncing down the highway at 65 mph.
But there is an ugly, disgusting and very hidden reality that may exist in your RV. This reality is what lies under your RV mattress. Trust me when I say it was a disgusting observation.
I was changing the sheets one day and noticed it was a bit damp underneath the mattress. When I pulled the mattress off the wooden platform, I was horrified at the sight of mold growing on the wood.
Now I was in full on research mode. I spent the rest of the night educating myself on what was the cause and how to prevent this from happening again. What I found is that, this is a major problem amongst RV owners, boat owners and travelers.
Most importantly, I am writing this blog to help educate people and remind them to check under their RV mattress. Do It Today! Do It Now!
Watch how we resolved the problem in our YouTube video: Ravenwolf Den Dry Underlayment Product Review
Kick Mold, Mildew and Moisture Under Your RV Mattress To The Curb
- Replace the damage wood if needed.
- Air out, dry or replace your mattress depending on the level of damage.
- There needs to be some sort of ventilation between the mattress and the platform.
We purchased and installed mattress underlayment ventilation by Ravenwolf Marine. There are other companies out there that sell this same product, but at a cost of $12 a foot and standard piece is 30 inches wide, the cost would have been $189. We spent $89 on this product and have zero moisture issues under our mattress. Dry as a bone!
So, check under your mattress and if you find mold or mildew, do your homework and get it resolved. Because we have seen people use everything from pool noodles underneath, to wood strips or high priced underlayment. Just do something if this is a problem to protect yourself and your family from mold and mildew.
We truly hope this helps!
