Product Review – PIRIT Heated Water Hose

Product Review – PIRIT Heated Water Hose

If you’ve been following our adventures here on Trippin Brehenys then you know that we spent the latter part of 2018 in some very cold places.  From Culbertson MT, to Colorado Springs CO, to Albuquerque NM and everything in between.  Temperatures often dipped into the low single digits.  This made it difficult early on to have some of the simple creature comforts we’ve grown accustomed to such as RUNNING WATER.  You don’t realize how much you take something like running water for granted until you don’t have it.

While hunkered down in Culbertson MT working the Sugar Beet Harvest we experienced toe curling temperatures.  We awoke every morning to a frozen drinking water hose.  If we were lucky the hose would thaw midday and give us 2 or 3 hours of running water.  This also had the unpleasant effect of freezing the water left over in some of our pipes in our travel trailer, often times extending the time we could not get the water running.

Then, we got smart.

Each night I would go outside, turn off the water supply and disconnect both ends of the drinking hose. The best part is that I would then put my mouth on the end of the hose and blow all the water out so it wouldn’t freeze during the night.  YUM!  After that we would run all the water through our internal pipes.  Once the water unfroze in the morning we’d hook the hose back up and have sometimes 6 to 7 hours of running.  Yay us!

Then, we got smarter. Pirit Heated Hose Review

We went onto our favorite online retailer Amazon and ordered the Pirit PWL-03-25 25 Foot Heated Hose.  We have not been without running water since.  Even with temperatures getting as low as 5 degrees at night we wake up in the morning with full running water.

The Pirit (pronounced Pirate) Heated Hose states that it keeps water from freezing to outside temperatures as low as -47º F.  The hose automatically turns on when temperatures reach below 45º F and turns off at 50ºF.

THE PRO(S):

  • The Pirit Heated Hose works as advertised and has given us running water in temperatures as low as 6º F.
  • It kept even the water inside our RV water lines from freezing.
  • Comes in 12′, 25′, 50′ and 100′ depending on your need.

THE CON(S):

  • This product is bulkier than a standard water hose and is a little difficult to handle when hooking up and tearing down.
  • Since the product is new there is a plastic like after taste in the water that lasted for about 3 weeks in our case.

FINAL ANALYSIS:

We have been using the Pirit Heated Hose for just over 4 weeks and have yet to be without running water.  For that we have to give this product a 5 Star Review.
