How To Start A WordPress Blog On Siteground

Creating your first blog can be overwhelming.  There are so many options to choose from and so many things to learn.  From free blog sites such as blogger.com, wix.com and weebly.com to 3rd party self hosted options that can be found at siteground.com, bluehost.com and many others it’s almost enough to make your head explode.  If you’re serious about creating your own blog and eventually turning it into a business or a source of income then you’re going to want to set yourself up with a 3rd party hosting site.  This is where Siteground shines.   Siteground is one of the best 3rd party hosting sites around and possibly the best when using WordPress to create your blog.  They also have incredible customer service and support.

Trippin Brehenys uses affiliate links which means we may get paid a commission if you purchase through one of the links on our site.  This is at no additional cost to you. See our full disclosure Here.

We did our research before choosing which platform to blog on and which 3rd party hosting site to use.  So why did we choose Siteground?

  • Siteground boasts a 99.99% uptime.   If you’re online and providing content you want to be certain it’s always accessible.
  • Their average load time is 714 ms.
  • They have superior customer service and support.
  • Recommended by WordPress.org and have high performance WordPress hosting.
  • They provide free transfers for existing websites.

So are you ready to start your blog?   Just follow the simple steps below and you will be up and blogging in just minutes.

1. Choose Your Domain Name:

Before you jump in and setup your first blogging website you’re going to want to have a name picked out for your website.   You can always start the sign up process but if you haven’t picked out a name yet you’ll either end up staring at your computer screen drawing a blank or picking a name on the fly that you’ll regret later on. While going through the sign up process Siteground will give you the option to register your domain name for $15.95 for a .com site or input your domain name if you already have one set up.

2. Choose A Hosting Plan:

Get started on Siteground here.

Click on Get Started under Managed WordPress Hosting.

Here you’ve got 3 plan options:

  • StartUp
  • GrowBig
  • GoGeek

We recommend using the StartUp plan to begin with.   You can always upgrade your plan as your blog grows.  One of the great features of Siteground is that you can pay 3 years up front and lock in the low introductory rate of $3.95 a month.

3. Complete your purchase and payment information:

Simply select your plan options, plan length and additional services.

4. Make your payment and start the Siteground Account Setup Wizard.

If you chose to register your domain during the setup (as shown in step 3 above) then the Siteground Account Setup Wizard will pre-populate that information and you’re ready to proceed by clicking on Start a new website at your domain.   You can also transfer an existing website domain (as highlighted below).

Click proceed in the setup wizard and you will be prompted to setup your website preferences, install WordPress and choose a theme.

Take advantage of the awesome WordPress tutorials provided by Siteground and start sharing your amazing content with the world. We can’t wait to see what you create!

UPDATE:

Before you get started be sure to activate and familiarize yourself with the SG Optimizer plug in.   This plug in was created by Siteground and will optimize your website for the best search engine performance.  We didn’t focus on this in the beginning and we’re kicking ourselves for not doing so.
