On The Road To Nomad – Days 9 through 10 Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial, Custer State Park, Needles Highway and Mammoth Site – Joe

On The Road To Nomad – Days 9 through 10 Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial, Custer State Park, Needles Highway and Mammoth Site – Joe

Our journey on Day 9 (5/26/18) finds us on a nice peaceful drive from The Badlands which after about an hour turns into steep inclines as we climb into the mountainous region of the Black Hills Forest. This wasn’t so bad, the only problem with the drive was that at times the weight of our trailer wouldn’t allow my truck to go any faster than 35 MPH. Finally we got to the top, driving was going to be much easier…

Seeking Freedom On The Road To Nomad Day 9 Burning Up The Brakes – Julia

Seeking Freedom On The Road To Nomad Day 9 Burning Up The Brakes – Julia

Headed to Mt Rushmore, Custer State Park, Mammoth Site and Crazy Horse. I am stoked!!! After 8 days of what it seems like non-stop traveling, we are headed to Hill City, SD. We will be staying put for 3 nights. It will be a nice break from packing up, emptying the poo tank, hitching up and driving a few hundred miles. It was a sad morning leaving the majestic Badlands, but we had a mere 94 miles to drive to…

Seeking Freedom On The Road To Nomad Day 8 Part 2 Of The Badlands Area – Julia

Seeking Freedom On The Road To Nomad Day 8 Part 2 Of The Badlands Area – Julia

This past week has been one of the most wonderful weeks of my life. So many of my senses are going crazy. The beauty, the sounds, the peacefulness, the smells and most importantly the time that I have been able to spend with Joe and my son, Nick. So much of everything we do each day are things we must get gone. But have you ever thought how different your life could be if you removed all those “tasks”? So…

Seeking Freedom On The Road To Nomad Day 8 Part 1 The BadLands National Park – Julia

It has been a few days since I have been able to do anything technology related. We are high up in the hills in the Black Hills National Forest and oh my, the Internet. What Internet??? We ain’t got nothing up here. So here I am in the laundry room at the KOA in Mt Rushmore plugged into the wall with a cable to get Internet. Where there is a will, there is a way and this is a painfully…

On The Road To Nomad – Day 8 The Badlands, Minuteman Missile Historic Center, Wall Drug and Prairie Dogs – Joe

Day 8 has been our shortest drive day so far. We left Kennebec, SD and headed for our next destination, a campground just 4 miles outside of The Badlands National Park. Our peaceful, serene drive along the rolling highway suddenly erupted into jagged spires and crooked canyons. My son who was sleeping in back seat popped up his head just as we were entering the park and said “Hey guys, where are we aaaaaaaaa… WHOA!” He was that impressed. After driving through…

The Badlands, South Dakota? More like The Badass, South Dakota – Joe

The Badlands, South Dakota? More like The Badass, South Dakota – Joe

My son was sleeping in the back of the truck just as we were about to enter The Badlands National Park. As we pulled around a looping curve and the magnificent sandstone spires came in to view he pooped his head and said “Hey guys (brief pause), WHOA!” Yes, The Badlands are that beautiful and awe-inspiring. Here are two of my favorite photos from today at The Badlands. Traveller tip: Don’t ever drive through South Dakota without visiting the awesome…

Seeking Freedom On The Road To Nomad Day 7 – Julia

I can’t believe we have been traveling for 7 days straight. Feeling just a tad bit exhausted. However, our miles per day have just turned the corner and decreased significantly. We traveled many miles per day for the first week, so that now we have time to play. Today we traveled from the KOA in Sioux City, South Dakota to the KOA in Kennebec, South Dakota. A mere 248 miles today. I never thought a 248 mile trip would be…

On The Road To Nomad – Day 7 South Dakota to… South Dakota? Whaaaaaat? – Joe

Ahhhhh, Life on the road! It is so exhilarating, so calm, so peaceful, so fucking exhausting. We knew what we were getting into when set out on our lifelong adventure. My wife Julia has it all mapped out and the first 7 days have been spent setting a blistering pace to get across the country. Every day we spend about an hour tearing down and getting our rig ready to travel and then another hour setting it up once we…

Seeking Freedom On The Road To Nomad Day 6 – Julia

It was a fabulous day today as we were able to sleep in a bit later since our daily drives are now getting shorter and shorter. I was so happy to leave the bug infested Lewis and Clark State Park Campground around 10 am this morning. Today I celebrate freedom from the bugs as my first piece of happy. We are on our way to Sioux City, SD today and a 252 mile drive. Our shortest day yet since day…

On The Road To Nomad – Day 6 Missouri through Iowa to South Dakota – Joe

Can you believe it’s been 6 days already? Last night just as we were getting ready to pack it in for the night Julia looks up at the ceiling in the kitchen of our trailer and her eyes get all wide while her mouth opens in a little O of surprise. I look up and see about 150 flying bugs, WTF! They were either very large gnats or very small mosquitos. Whatever they were they needed to go away and…
